Outside of being one of the biggest acting talents on the planet, Leonardo DiCaprio is also one of the most outspoken environmentalists in Hollywood. So, it makes complete sense that the actor is developing a new film that has a distinct environmentalist message. And to help bring his vision to life, he’s brought along one of the most sought-after directors around.
According to Collider, DiCaprio has brought on director Edward Berger for the upcoming film about the recent Volkswagen Clean Diesel scandal. No, that may not be the most exciting topic for a feature film, but with DiCaprio on board as a producer and Berger as a director, we have to assume that the folks behind the scenes are cooking up one interesting take on the scandal that cost VW approximately $30 billion in repairs, customer reimbursement, and fines.

The film is based on the recent book “Faster Higher Farther: The Inside Story of the Volkswagen Scandal,” written by author Jack Ewing, which details the way VW installed special devices in the company’s Clean Diesel vehicles that would cheat emissions tests.
Berger is probably best known for his work on the recent, critically-acclaimed series “Patrick Melrose.” However, he’s currently working on his upcoming film “Rio,” which stars “Patrick Melrose” star Benedict Cumberbatch and A-lister Jake Gyllenhaal. So, clearly, Berger is a filmmaker that is has quite a bit of momentum.
There’s no release date in mind for this Paramount film, as the project is still in the early stages. But with Berger attached, DiCaprio behind the scenes, and the massive story at its core, this film has all the makings of something special.
