Eddie Murphy has been perfectly comfortable sitting under mountains of prosthetics and makeup to make himself transform into the various characters seen throughout his films for decades. Perhaps that trick has been used best in his two “Coming to America” films. However, for a potential third film in that series, he wants to wait for age to actually catch up to him so that he won’t have to fake like he’s 75-years-old.
Speaking on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” Eddie Murphy was asked whether or not he has an idea for a third “Coming to America” film. And though the actor has an idea for where he’d like the franchise to go, he doesn’t believe it can be made for another 16 years.
“There’s an idea for a ‘Coming to America 3’ that I have, but it doesn’t happen for 16 years,” said Murphy. “I have to be 75 to do it, and not make me up like 75 but really be 75.”

Judging by how “Coming 2 America” took the same basic DNA of the original film from three decades prior, we can assume that the third ‘Coming’ film would feature Murphy fully embracing his King status and becoming the James Earl Jones-esque regal ruler that the elder actor portrayed in the first two films. Will they focus on Akeem’s grandchildren seeking independence and running off to Queens? Will Jermaine Fowler become the star of the film with Murphy stepping into a more supporting role? Try to remember those questions for 2037 when we’re talking about Craig Brewer returning to direct Murphy and Arsenio Hall in “Coming 3 America.”
