Got a Tip?

Edgar Wright’s Top 10 Films Of 2013 Includes ‘Spring Breakers,’ ‘Rush,’ ‘Prisoners’ & More

Spring Breakers

With one movie to promote heavily on both sides of the pond (“The World’s End“) and another major franchise movie gearing up (“Ant-Man“), that Edgar Wright had time to keep watching films enough to put together a top ten of 2013 is pretty impressive. But it comes with a caveat: like many folks, the last-month crush of films makes it hard to catch up with everything, so be forewarned, this list was compiled with Wright, at the time of putting it together, having not yet seen a handful of movies including “12 Years A Slave,” “Dallas Buyers Club” or “American Hustle” (all of which open in the U.K. in 2014).

Still, there’s plenty to choose from in 2013 and Wright’s list is a nice acknowledgment that there were great movies outside the awards season too. It’s nice to see some love for Ron Howard‘s overlooked “Rush” and the similarly ignored (at least by critics group voter types) “Prisoners” by Denis Villeneuve. On the indie front, Wright tips his hat to “Short Term 12” and “The Spectacular Now,” the latter of which he explains could act as a prequel to “The World’s End” in some ways. And topping it off are two movies that are still causing chatter: Harmony Korine‘s “Spring Breakers” and Alfonso Cuaron‘s “Gravity.”

Check out the full list below along with Wright’s brief talk about his choices. [Digital Spy]
