Got a Tip?

Elizabeth Banks & Paul Giamatti Join Brian Wilson Biopic ‘Love & Mercy’

Elizabeth BanksIf you’re going to tell the story of one of the greatest pop songwriters of all time, you’d better bring it, and credit to producer/director Bill Pohlad for bringing some solid talent to his Brian Wilson biopic “Love & Mercy.” John Cusack and Paul Dano are slated to play the older and younger versions of the Beach Boys front-man respectively, and the past couple weeks have seen two more nice additions to the cast.

Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti have also signed up for the music movie. Written by Oren Moverman (“The Messenger,” “Rampart”), “Love & Mercy” will explore Wilson’s battle with mental illness, while spanning decades of life, re-imagining seminal moments in his career. From highlighting his natural musical talents to his profound struggles, the movie will also zero in on the life that helped him through it all. And it’s Banks who takes the role of Wilson’s wife, with Giamatti slated in as his therapist, Dr. Eugene Landy.

We’re always up for a great music-driven biopic, and this one has us hopeful. Production begins in August. [THR/The Wrap]
