Got a Tip?

Emmy 2022 Predictions: ‘Succession,’ ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The White Lotus’

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The Staircase
Toni Collette as Kathleen
Inventing Anna
Julia Garner as Anna Delvey
Pam & Tommy
Lily James as Pamela Anderson
Impeachment: American Crime Story
Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp
MAID
Margaret Qualley as Alex
The Dropout
Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes

Who will win: Amanda Seyfried
Who should win: Amanda Seyfried
Upset: Julia Garner, Margaret Qualley
Lowdown:
“The Dropout’s” Amanda Seyfried should win her first Emmy here, but don’t discount the Netflix-fueled Julia Garner or Margaret Qualley. The respective “Inventing Anna” and “MAID” stars are ready to crash the category…if they can.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

Dopesick
The Dropout
Inventing Anna
Pam & Tommy
The White Lotus

Who will win: The White Lotus
Who should win: The Dropout
Upset: Dopesick
Lowdown:
Dopesick is the safe pick here, but The White Lotus dominated the Creative Arts Emmys taking five statues while the former player took just one so far. The Mike White series also has 20 nods overall compared to just 14 for Danny Strong’s baby. Throw in the fact it has nine acting nominations (almost the entire cast) to “Dopesick’s” six and it’s hard to fathom it not taking the trophy.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Barry
Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank
Ted Lasso
Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
Ted Lasso •
Toheeb Jimoh as Sam Obisanya
Ted Lasso
Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Tony Shalhoub as Abe Weissman
Abbott Elementary
Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie
Barry
Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau
Saturday Night Live
Bowen Yang as Various Characters

Who will win: Henry Winkler
Who should win: Anthony Carrigan or Henry Winkler
Upset: Brett Goldstein
Lowdown:
Lots of great performances in this category, but both “Barry’s” Anthony Carrigan and Henry Winkler were on another level. That being said, it wouldn’t be a shock if “Ted Lasso’s” Brett Goldstein repeated here.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Succession
Nicholas Braun as Greg Hirsch
The Morning Show
Billy Crudup as Cory Ellison
Succession
Kieran Culkin as Roman Roy
Squid Game
Park Hae-soo as Cho Sang-woo
Succession
Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans
Severance
John Turturro as Irving Bailiff
Severance •
Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman
Squid Game
Oh Young-soo as Oh Il-nam

Who will win: Matthew Macfadyen
Who should win: Matthew Macfadyen
Upset: Kieran Culkin, John Turturro, Christopher Walken
Lowdown:
In theory, this is between the “Succession” stars. We think Matthew Macfadyen will come out on top, but it’s gonna be close.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The White Lotus
Murray Bartlett as Armond
The White Lotus
Jake Lacy as Shane Patton
Dopesick
Will Poulter as Billy Cutler
Pam & Tommy
Seth Rogen
Dopesick
Peter Sarsgaard as Rick Mountcastle
Dopesick
Michael Stuhlbarg as Richard Sackler
The White Lotus
Steve Zahn as Mark Mossbacher

Who will win: Murray Bartlett
Who should win: Murray Bartlett
Upset: Pick’ em
Lowdown:
This race is basically “The White Lotus'” Murray Bartlett versus the field. Any other actor winning her would be a major surprise.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Alex Borstein as Susie Myerson
Hacks
Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels
Abbott Elementary
Janelle James as Ava Coleman
Saturday Night Live
Kate McKinnon as Various Characters
Ted Lasso
Sarah Niles as Dr. Sharon Fieldstone
Abbott Elementary
Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard
Ted Lasso
Juno Temple as Keeley Jones
Ted Lasso
Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton

Who will win: Hannah Waddingham
Who should win: Janelle James
Upset: Janelle James or Sheryl Lee Ralph
Lowdown:
Listen, we love Hannah Waddingham, but the “Ted Lasso” star does not deserve to repeat here. Sadly, she probably will to the detriment of “Abbott Elementary’s” fantastic Janelle James.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Severance
Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel
Ozark
Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore
Squid Game
Jung Ho-yeon as Kang Sae-byeok
Yellowjackets
Christina Ricci as Misty
Better Call Saul
Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler
Succession
J. Smith-Cameron as Gerri Kellman
Succession
Sarah Snook as Shiv Roy
Euphoria
Sydney Sweeney as Cassie

Who will win: Julia Garner
Who should win: Sarah Snook
Upset: Jung Ho-yeon
Lowdown:
“Succession’s” Sarah Snook deserves it for that last shot of season three alone. “Squid Game’s” Jung Ho-yeon took the SAG Award. And “Ozark’s” Julia Garner? In our view the two-time winner likely sealed her third win with that blood-curling scream in season four.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The White Lotus
Connie Britton as Nicole Mossbacher
The White Lotus
Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya
The White Lotus
Alexandra Daddario as Rachel Patton
Dopesick
Kaitlyn Dever as Betsy Mallum
The White Lotus
Natasha Rothwell as Belinda
The White Lotus
Sydney Sweeney as Olivia Mossbacher
Dopesick
Mare Winningham as Diane Mallum

Who will win: Jennifer Coolidge
Who should win: Jennifer Coolidge
Upset: Kaitlyn Dever
Lowdown:
The Television Academy isn’t going to ruin Jennifer Coolidge‘s comeback moment are they?

Outstanding Variety Sketch Series

A Black Lady Sketch Show
Saturday Night Live

Who will win: Saturday Night Live
Who should win: A Black Lady Sketch Show
Upset: I mean…
Lowdown:
Statistically, “A Black Lady Sketch Show” has a 50/50 chance of winning. Probably won’t happen, but dare to dream.

Outstanding Variety Talk Series

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah
Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
Late Night With Seth Meyers
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Who will win: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Who should win: The Daily Show with Trevor Noah or The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Upset: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Lowdown:
Frankly, it’s gonna be a shock if John Oliver and crew don’t win this one…again.

What We Do In The Shadows • The Wellness Center
Stefani Robinson, Written by

Who will win: Quinta Brunson
Who should win: Quinta Brunson or Steve Martin and John Hoffman
Upset: Steve Martin and John Hoffman, Jane Becker
Lowdown:
The “Only Muders in the Building” collaborators could easily take this, but this is the category Emmy voters should give “Abbott Elementary’s” Quinta Brunson her much-deserved moment.

Better Call Saul
Thomas Schnauz, Written by
Ozark • A Hard Way To Go

Yellowjackets
Ashley Lyle, Written by
Bart Nickerson, Written by

Who will win: Jesse Armstrong
Who should win: Jesse Armstrong
Upset: Dan Erickson
Lowdown:
“All The Bells Say” is one of the best hours of television over the past decade. Jesse Armstrong has won here before, but I don’t know how the branch doesn’t recognize his work with that pivotal episode.

Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

Dopesick • The People vs. Purdue Pharma
Danny Strong, Written by
The Dropout • I’m In A Hurry
Elizabeth Meriwether, Written for Television by
Impeachment: American Crime Story • Man Handled
Sarah Burgess, Written by
MAID • Snaps
Molly Smith Metzler, Written by
Station Eleven • Unbroken Circle
Patrick Somerville, Written by
The White Lotus
Mike White, Written by

Who will win: Mike White
Who should win: Patrick Sommerville
Upset: Danny Strong, Elizabeth Meriwether
Lowdown:
The creator of “The White Lotus” should win this category, but Mike White has strong competition from “Dopesick’s” Danny Strong and “The Dropout’s” Elizabeth Meriwether.

Nicole Byer, Written by
Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special
Norm Macdonald, Written by

Who will win: Jerrod Carmichael
Who should win: Jerrod Carmichael
Upset: Norm Macdonald
Lowdown:
Jerrod Carmichael should have this locked up, but love for the recently departed Norm Macdonald may be posthumously honored instead.
