'Euphoria' Teaser: Zendaya Stars In New HBO Teen Drama Series From Filmmaker Behind 'Assassination Nation'

After rising to prominence as an actress in a couple of different Disney Channel series, Zendaya has transitioned into more adult work and has chosen some pretty unique projects. First, she’s now the love-interest in the newly-rebooted ‘Spider-Man’ film series. The actress also showed up in “The Greatest Showman,” “The OA,” and is soon to be seen in the highly-anticipated “Dune.” But before she ventures off to Arrakis, she’s the star of an upcoming HBO series titled, “Euphoria.”

Based on the Israeli series of the same name, Zendaya stars as a teenage girl trying to come to terms with who she is as a person. In a world dominated by social media, and experiencing the typical teenager issues like drugs, sex, friendship, etc.., the young woman attempts to figure out her place in the world and survive it all.

The series is adapted from its Israeli origins by Sam Levinson, who is the writer of each episode. You may remember Levinson as the man who recently brought you “Assassination Nation.” It’s clear there is a similar vibe to “Euphoria” as his previous project, as is made clear in the new teaser for the HBO series. In addition to “Assassination Nation,” Levinson is also the writer of “The Wizard of Lies,” which was the HBO film about Bernie Madoff that starred Robert De Niro and was directed by Sam’s father Barry Levinson.

Joining Zendaya in the cast of “Euphoria” are Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith, and Sydney Sweeney.

“Euphoria” is set to debut on HBO on June 16.
