Got a Tip?

Eva Green Joins Michael Mann’s Spanish Civil War-Set Love Story Of Photographer Robert Capa?

Has Eva Green joined Michael Mann’s romance tale of renowned war photographer Robert Capa set during the Spanish Civil War?

The actress’ reported casting in the adaptation of Susana Fortes’ “Waiting For Robert Capa” comes courtesy of a throwaway line from The Guardian which reports that the actress has joined “an upcoming biopic of photojournalist Robert Capa.” No further details on her involvement is provided so it’s not known if the mentioned project is definitely Mann’s adaptation though we think it’s pretty safe to assume so.

Green would likely fill the shoes of fellow photographer Gerda Taro whose romance with Capa is the focal point of Fortes’s novel and this subsequent adaptation. Taro and Capa met in Paris in 1935 where to two began a two-year romance that ended when Taro was tragically killed in a road accident at the Battle Of Brunnete. Despite a later romance with actress Ingrid Bergman, Taro was reportedly the love of Capa’s life as he never married after her death and was found with only her photo in his wallet at the time of his death.

Green’s involvement also continues Mann’s love affair with Gallic thesps after working with fellow French beauty Marion Cotillard in his John Dillinger biopic, “Public Enemies” — the romance between Dillinger and Cotillard’s Billie Frechette being some of the more compelling material in that particular work.

Jez Butterworth (Doug Liman’s upcoming “Fair Game”) is currently adapting Fortes’ book for Columbia Pictures with the project looming as Mann’s likely next directorial effort. It remains to be seen, however, who Mann will cast as his Capa and how he’ll pull off the pic as the reported “gritty, low-budget film” he’s aiming for.
