Sometimes you write a story and you wonder, “Will people actually believe this or will they just assume we’re joking?” Well, in the case of this next story, I implore you to believe me when I say that Eva Longoria is set to direct a film about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, simply titled”Flamin’ Hot.”
According to Deadline, Longoria has signed to direct a film about Richard Montanez, the creator of the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The report says that Fox Searchlight was so impressed with Longoria’s pitch of the film, she won out over other directors for the coveted job.
As mentioned, the film follows the story of Montanez and his wife Judy and is set to be one of the more inspiring true stories we’ve seen on film recently. Montanez started his career as the son of a Mexican immigrant that was the janitor at the Frito-Lay company when he got the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Inspired by the flavors that he grew up with, Montanez inadvertently created a brand that would change the snack industry forever. Writer Lewis Colick, of “Charlie St. Cloud” and “October Sky” fame, has written the script.
This isn’t going to be Longoria’s directorial debut, however. The actress-turned-filmmaker has already signed on to helm “24/7,” a new film she stars in alongside Kerry Washington. She’s also tried her hand at producing, with projects like “A Class Apart” and “Lucky Boy.”
No word on when we might see the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos movie, but it would appear that Fox Searchlight is pretty high on the idea and we’ll just have to wait and see how Longoria does with the opportunity.
