With a poster declaring that it will be "The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience," and a red band trailer serving up tongue slicing, chainsaw maiming mayhem, the folks behind the "Evil Dead" remake are determined to let you know this thing is going for broke. And indeed, the first cut of the movie seems to suggest that they went very, very hard before having to pull back.
Director Fede Alvarez, revealed on Twitter today: "@woozytribe Was proud of scoring a NC17 when submitted! But we had to cut stuff out to get an R and get the film into theaters." Of course, this isn't the first or last time a movie will be edited for ratings, but it does suggest that the intensity of the trailers so far isn't just a bunch of clever editing. It certainly positions the movie as something that takes the Sam Raimi original and puts it into a whole other sphere, but the question remains as to whether or not the end result will be succesful.
However, an already confirmed slot at SXSW points to some confidence from the studio and on April 12th you might want to pack an extra pair of underpants on your way to the theater. [ScreenCrush]
