At first, many were surprised when Roman Coppola chose Charlie Sheen to star in his long-awaited sophomore feature "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III." The actor was coming off of his infamous meltdown and was largely uninsureable, but what some folks may not know is that the pair have been friends since childhood, first meeting on the set of "Apocalypse Now" (directed by Roman's Dad, and starring Charlie's father). And the project was one Coppola had been brewing for a long time, spurred by his own relationship troubles which he shared with Sheen.
"I experienced a breakup, and at the same time a friend of mine was going through a divorce," he told LA Weekly. "And we would just sit around and talk incessantly about the same things in a very loopy way. We'd bring up a memory and be happy, and then be angry. The state of mind one can get into when you go through a breakup can be kind of dazzling and fractured." And it's those words — "dazzling and fractured" — which perhaps best describe the dreamy 'Charles Swan III.' The movie finds Sheen in the lead role, in the '70s set story of a graphic designer who breaks up with this girlfriend and goes a journey of self-reflection.
And as you'll see in the two exclusive, alternate posters for the film below, they capture the trippy, surreal visual style Coppola brings to the movie which incorporates fantasy elements and a keen eye overall to help tell the tale. Co-starring Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Aubrey Plaza, Patricia Arquette and more, 'Charles Swan III' is now available on VOD and opens in limited release on February 8th.
