The pleasure of a film festival is sitting in the dark and watching unexpected talent come together, in interesting ways, in films that buck the trends and templates coming out of Hollywood. Director Brian Savelson has made such a film, assembling an unlikely but promising bunch of players including "Mad Men" star John Slattery, indie darling Jena Malone, "Friday Night Lights" star Zach Gilford and Gabrielle Union for his debut, the drama "In Our Nature."
The story takes place over a single weekend, chronicling two couples at a crossroads. What starts as a romantic interlude for two young lovers (Gilford and Malone) turns into something more when the man's estranged father (Slattery) shows up with his own girlfriend in tow (Union). Confrontations and collisions mount, as both father and son face reach their own turning points. In the exclusive scene below, we get an inkling of what is in store for the weekend as the four characters first meet under some less than ideal circumstances.
"In Our Nature" premieres at SXSW as part of the Narrative Spotlight section. The first screening takes place Saturday, March 10th at 5:00 p.m. (Stateside Theatre). Watch below, after which you can see the full trailer courtesy of Deadline.
