Exclusive: Congressional Medal Of Honor Awarded Navy SEAL Gets A Tribute In Clip From ‘MURPH: The Protector’

nullWith the rhetoric in Washington, spin in the media and general fatigue in the public, no matter where you stand on the military efforts of the United States overseas, it’s easy to forget there are very real men and women putting their lives on the line every day. Sometimes that simple fact can get lost in the discourse, but the upcoming documentary “MURPH: The Protector” sets out to honor one young man who made a difference in the lives he touched.

Written and directed by Scott Mactavish, the film chronicles the life of LT Michael Murphy, who lost his life in a gun battle with the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2005, after putting himself deliberately in harm’s way in order to alert headquarters that his men were under fire. For his courage and bravery, Murphy was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2007. Just how important and lasting was the soldier’s effect on those around him? In this exclusive clip from from the doc, we see that the SEAL’s name is memorialized on a massive military ship, with his family members weighing in how much it means to them to see his legacy on live on. It’s a touching moment in what looks like an involving film.

“MURPH: The Protector” opens in limited release starting on Friday, March 22nd for a one-week run at Regal Theaters. But if the numbers are good, it may be held over. Proceeds from the film will go to the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Watch below.
