Renowned fashion designer Vera Wang has revealed her own ambitions to follow in the footsteps of Tom Ford and move into the world of directing feature films.
“I’m getting ready maybe to make an independent film myself. I’m thinking of maybe picking up a camera [and directing],” Wang told THR. ” “I think in our fashion shows, we always try to tell a story even though it’s nine or 10 minutes, and to take it to another level with 3 dimension or 4 dimension is kinda groovy.”
It’s not exactly a simple step up but, with an obvious flair for the visuals, designers would be a natural for the design aspects of film production. Could they carry the torch in the storytelling department? “I love stories. I love stories about love, about anger, about emotion, about complexity. It might involve fashion, it’s still visual,” defended Wang. “Probably if I make a film, I would use my own clothes.”
We’re big fans of Ford’s first effort, an adaptation of Christopher Isherwood‘s iconic “A Single Man,” and certainly look forward to seeing what another icon in the fashion world like Wang can conjure up — she probably wouldn’t be short of fans in Hollywood to help her out either.The failed figure skater turned fashion guru has even already featured in a few films as herself including the Anna Wintour doc “The September Issue” and Forest Whitaker‘s 2004 rom-com “First Daughter” and famously had her designs featured in the ‘Sex And The City‘ television series and films.
