'Faye' Trailer: HBO's Doc About The Legendary Hollywood Actress Premieres On July 13

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival had its fair share of notable premieres, including Sean Baker‘s Palme d’Or winner “Anora” and Francis Ford Coppola‘s “Megalopolis,” among others. But a certain doc made waves in the Cannes Classics roster, quietly collecting a string of positive reviews. Now it’s time for HBO subscribers to catch up with “Faye,” Laurent Bouzereau‘s film about the life and career of Hollywood icon Faye Dunaway.

“Faye” takes a look at Dunaway’s decades-long career, from her humble beginnings to her string of acclaimed roles in the ’70s to her later struggles with alcoholism and mental illness.

Academy Award® winning actress and multi-decade movie star, Faye Dunaway, recounts the triumphs and challenges of her illustrious career with frank candor in FAYE, the first feature documentary about the Hollywood legend. Through honest reflection, complemented by insight from colleagues and friends, Dunaway contextualizes her life and filmography, laying bare her struggles with mental health while confronting the double standards she was subjected to as a woman in Hollywood.

The doc includes reflections from Dunaway and others on several of her biggest performances, including “Network,” “Chinatown,” Bonnie And Clyde,” “Mommie Dearest,” and more. Interviewees for “Faye” include Dunaway’s son Liam Dunaway O’Neill, author Mark Harris, journalist Robin Morgan, film professor Annette Insdorf, photographer/director Jerry Schatzberg, and author David Itzkoff. Actors Sharon Stone, Mickey Rourke and director James Gray also provide interview for the film.

Bouzereau directs the film, and leads producers with Markus Keith, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank.  Jason Summers edits the film, with Tyler Strickland as composer and Travers Jacobs, Chris Johnson, and Toby Thiermann as directors of photography.  Executive producers include Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Sara Rodriguez. “Faye” is an Amblin Documentaries Production in association with Nedland Media for HBO Documentary Films.
