Well, the rumor mill continues to churn today around “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” with the addition of Canadian actress Sarah Gadon. Rumor has it that she’s taking the Mary Jane Watson role left vacant by Shailene Woodley after her brief appearance in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was cut, but there’s been no official word as of yet. Until then, let’s turn our eyes to another piece of intel that’s making the nerds talk….
When Felicity Jones boarded the Spidey sequel earlier this year, her part was kept under wraps, though speculation flew that she was playing Black Cat, a tortured cat burglar who falls into a romance with Peter Parker, who reveals his true identity to her. It’s big stuff, and it’s understandable why the filmmakers might want to keep it under lock and key for now. Well, one intrepid British journalist tried to wring an answer out of Jones in a recent interview, and you can see the actress figuring how to address the query without spoiling anything. Take a look below (starts at about the 1:20 mark) — either she’s playing Black Cat or she’s not, but still can’t say what her role is.
Meanwhile, in non-nerd news, Deadline reports that Jones has joined the Stephen Hawking biopic “Theory Of Everything” with Eddie Redmayne. She’ll play his wife Jane, whom the physicist meets at Cambridge, and show her decision to stand by and marry him even after his diagnosis of ALS. Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker James Marsh (“Man on Wire”) will direct.
