Are we even surprised nowadays when a trailer for a new Stephen King adaptation arrives? Since the massive success of the two “It” films, studios have been snatching up the rights to various King novels over the past several years. But what makes this new one a little more intriguing is that the new “Firestarter,” produced by the horror studio, Blumhouse, is the second try at a beloved King classic.
As you can see in the new trailer for “Firestarter,” the film is very similar to the 1984 original and follows the story of a dad who has to do whatever it takes to keep his daughter safe. The Stephen King wrinkle to the story is that the little girl has pyrokinetic powers (she can control fire) and is the child of parents who were both experimented on when they were younger. As you might expect, the government wants the little girl for not-so-great reasons.
Instead of David Keith and Drew Barrymore, who starred in the original film, the 2022 “Firestarter” features actors such as Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, along with Michael Greyeyes. This is yet another interesting choice for Efron, who has gone to great lengths to expand his acting horizons, recently appearing in films such as “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” “The Beach Bum,” and “Gold.”
Much like many of the pandemic-era films, especially horror, “Firestarter” is getting the simultaneous theatrical and streaming release, arriving in theaters and on Peacock on May 13. You can watch the trailer for the film below:
