Richard Kelly’s upcoming “Twilight”-zone-ish horror/thriller, “The Box” doesn’t have a lot going for it.
It hits November 6, has almost zero buzz, and has been release date bumped by Warner Bros. about three different times. But if there is one thing going for it, it’s the Arcade Fire-composed score (or at least two members of the Arcade Fire with Owen Pallet of Final Fantasy) which will be maybe the only reason we’ll brave the theaters for this one (sorry, does just not look good in the least).
Wanna hear one looooong-ass Arcade Fire score piece full of French horns, ghostly choral voices, buzzing electronics and vertiginous harp? Sure you do. Well the “The Box” site has launched and you can hear this aforementioned piece of music. We’re not timing it or anything, but it feels like it goes on for at least five minutes straight. The Arcade Fire did say they were going to channel Bernard Hermann for this score and by the sounds of it, they weren’t lying. Kelly has said that the trio who composed this score (Win, Regine, Owen) composed up to 80 minutes of score, so there’s probably a fat soundtrack disc coming eventually.
