It was two years ago when “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly first signed on to play the elf warrior Tauriel in Peter Jackson‘s “The Hobbit” movies, which at that time were only supposed to be two instead of three. Whether or not that role has been expanded further remains to be seen, but we now have our first official look, and it seems like the part is living up to the warrior tag.
EW has the image of the brand new character created for the movies, who has previously been described as the “daughter of Mirkwood,” but now there are a few more details to share. “Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard,” Lilly told the magazine. “She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit.”
She will have a “significant” relationship with Orlando Bloom‘s Legolas, but that’s about all she can share at this point. Thoughts, opinions? You know where to leave ’em. ‘Smaug’ arrives on December 13th.
