“Jack and Diane” has been piquing our interest if only because of it’s out-there premise. Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, the film centers on two girls who share a romance and a deadly secret: one of them is a werewolf. The film was originally set set to star Juno Temple and Olivia Thirlby in the leads, but the latter dropped out and was replaced by up-and-comer Riley Keough, and with a cast rounded out by Kylie Minogue (yes, the singer, who is playing a heavily tattooed lesbian), Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Lou Taylor Pucci we can’t wait to see how it comes together.
Magnolia has announced they have picked up the worldwide rights to the film and dropped the first look image you seen above. There is also a new official logline which reads as follows: “Jack and Diane are two teenage girls who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously, quickly striking up a passionate love affair. But when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week, she tries to push her away. Diane struggles to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her monster-like visions.” But perhaps the most intriguing bit of all is one that took us completely by surprise.
“Jack And Diane” will not only have animated sequences, but they will be directed by none other than arthouse faves the Brothers Quay. The duo are known for the painstaking stop-motion animated work that is singularly and utterly theirs and are best known for the distinctive works “Street Of Crocodiles” and “Institute Benjamenta.” They certainly add a whole new dimension to the film that is already quite out there and it will be fascinating to see it come together.
There’s no word yet on a release date, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.
