As if Marvel couldn't top 2012, which has seen them release the blockbuster "The Avengers," start filming "Iron Man 3," and flip the switch on "Guardians Of The Galaxy," they've gone ahead and added Lizzy Caplan to the their cinematic universe. Well done, Marvel, well done.
The actress stars, alongside Jesse Bradford (still best known as that guy in "Bring It On"), in "Item 47," the latest in Marvel's "One Shots" series of short films that accompany the DVD releases of their movies. The longest of these entries yet — running 12 minutes — the story centers on a down-on-their-luck couple who stumble across the alien guns left behind in the aftermath of "The Avengers," and decide to do some bad things. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández and Titus Welliver) are tasked with tracking down Benny and Claire (think about those names for a second….sound like any famed, cinematic outlaw duo?). But sorry, no Agent Coulson this time around (for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who saw "The Avengers").
Marvel continues to toy with the short format, but they maintain that using it to introduce a new character — while a possibility — has some major drawbacks. “Let’s say we wanted to introduce Ant-Man [in a short], and that would mean we have to cast him prior to having a filmmaker. That’s difficult and something we wouldn’t want to do,” Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito tells EW.
"Item 47" will appear on the forthcoming "The Avengers" home video release on September 25th. Watch the trailer for the DVD and Blu-ray below.
