Over the past few years, Halloween movies for the most part have meant sequels, remakes, or cheapie low budget efforts that trick or treat their way into the number one spot at the box office for a single weekend and then disappear. But next year Guillermo Del Toro is likely to change the game. He’ll be coming back hard with his star-studded, period-set, gothic chiller "Crimson Peak." And the first look at Jessica Chastain’s character in the film, scanned from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly is making the rounds on the webosphere.
Joined by Mia Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hiddleston, this haunted house film has a pretty terrific logline: In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.
Even though I was not a fan of the monster robot smash fest of "Pacific Rim," it’s clear that when Del Toro gets moody, he’s capable of conjuring a special magic, so I’m really curious to see what he puts together here.
"Crimson Peak" opens on October 16, 2015.
