First Official Synopsis For 'Blade Runner 2049' Revealed

So far, there’s been a pretty tight lid on the plot details surrounding “Blade Runner 2049.” All that we’ve really known about the movie is that it features a terrific cast — Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto — led by the excellent Denis Villeneuve, who is working from a script by original “Blade Runner” scribe Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Well, now we have a better of idea of where the next chapter in the story is taking us.

The studio has quietly revealed the official synopsis for “Blade Runner 2049,” and if I’m being glib, it sounds like Ford’s Deckard is going to be like Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” a mythic figure that needs to be tracked down. But I have high expectations with Villeneuve behind the camera that it is going to be something that’s so much more. Here’s the full synopsis:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
