Appropriately backed by Ryan Adams’ “Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.” and Florence And The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over,” the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s Julia Roberts-led adaptation of the Elizabeth Gilbert memoirs “Eat, Pray, Love” has been released.
The film follows Gilbert as she treks on a journey of self-discovery around the world from Italy to India to Indonesia after finding herself at the crossroads. Javier Bardem, Billy Crudup, Richard Jenkins, Viola Davis and James Franco co-star in what looks like potentially an interesting character study for Roberts in a hearty, exotic road film.
The film already has a built-in audience with Gilbert’s book having stayed on the New York Times Best Seller for over three years since it’s 2006 release, even drawing the plaudits of Oprah Winfrey and her almighty book club.
Director Murphy, meanwhile, is coming off TV shows “Nip/Tuck” and the hugely popular “Glee” as well as the 2006 film “Running With Scissors.” He’s pretty much carrying our hopes of the film not succumbing to the pitfalls of rom-com sentiments.
“Eat, Pray, Love” hits theaters August 13th.
