What’s Edgar Ramírez been up to lately? Well, last year he had the female spy flick “The 355.” And up next, he’s part of the star-studded cast of Eli Roth‘s take on the videogame “Borderlands,” with any luck out this year. But in between, he returns to Netflix with “Florida Man,” a new crime series that traces shady people in a sun-dappled atmosphere.

The series stars Ramírez as an ex-cop tasked to return to Florida to find a mobster’s runaway girlfriend. Things quickly turn south because, well, it’s Florida.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:
When a struggling ex-cop (Edgar Ramírez) is forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend, what should be a quick gig becomes a wildly spiraling journey into buried family secrets, and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong. FLORIDA MAN, from creator Donald Todd, is a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people.
Alongside Ramírez, “Florida Man” also stars Anthony LaPaglia, Abbey Lee, Otmara Marrero, Lex Scott Davis, and Emory Cohen. Clark Gregg, Isaiah Johnson, Paul Schneider, and Lauren Buglioli round out the main cast.
“This Is Us” producer Donald Todd serves as creator and showrunner on “Florida Man.” He also co-executive produces with Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Miguel Arteta. The show is part of Bateman and Costigan’s multi-year production deal with Netflix the pair signed in 2018 following the ascendant praise of “Ozark.”
But will “Florida Man” reach the critical highs of that series? Take a look at the teaser for the series below to find out—the show’s seven episodes debut on Netflix on April 13.
