Yesterday we got a seasonal surprise with the first peek at Wes Anderson‘s upcoming animated movie “Isle Of Dogs,” but it looks like we’ll have to hold onto that clip for a while because the movie is still quite a way off from hitting cinemas.
Fox Searchlight has announced today they’ve reteamed with the director following “The Darjeeling Limited” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” and picked up the worldwide rights to “Isle Of Dogs.” Thus far, plot details have been kept under wraps, but it’s now revealed that the movie is set in Japan and follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog. And knowing Anderson, that journey is going be quirkily, entertainingly eventful.
The voice cast is ridiculously huge with F. Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban, Bud Cort, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Akira Ito, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Kunichi Nomura, Edward Norton, Yoko Ono, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Tilda Swinton, Akira Takayama and Frank Wood all lending their pipes. However, the movie isn’t planned to be released until 2018.
So, the good news is that “Isle Of Dogs” now has a home, but the bummer is that it’s going to take a while before we see it. But there’s plenty coming in 2017 to keep us occupied until then.
