'G20': Anthony Anderson, Antony Starr & More Join Viola Davis In Upcoming Action Thriller

After roles in “The Suicide Squad” and “The Woman King,” it’s fun to see Viola Davis fully embrace her blockbuster action phase of her career. And it seems as if she’s not slowing down, as production begins on her next film, “G20,” where she is now going to be surrounded by one hell of a supporting cast.

According to Deadline, Viola Davis has found the rest of her ensemble cast to co-star with in the forthcoming thriller, “G20.” The report claims Anthony Anderson (“black-ish”), Marsai Martin (“blackish”), Ramón Rodríguez (“Will Trent”), Antony Starr (“The Boys”), Douglas Hodge (“The Great”), Elizabeth Marvel (“The Color Purple”), Sabrina Impacciatore (“The White Lotus”), Clark Gregg (“Painkiller”), Christopher Farrar (“Home Team”), John Hoogenakker (“Waco: The Aftermath”), and MeeWha Alana Lee (“Umma”).

“G20,” as the title implies, is a thriller that takes place during the G20 summit, where terrorists have taken over the political gathering and the US President (played by Davis) has to use her military experience to defend everyone. It really sounds like a film that Gerard Butler would star in, but oh well, what can you do?

Even without the obvious exclusion of Butler, this is a really solid cast, filled with actors you don’t typically see leading high-profile films. It’s nice to see Anthony Anderson and Marsai Martin reteam after “black-ish,” for example. Plus, it’s good to see Starr get a big role after just scene-stealing left and right in “The Boys,” which is criminally underrated by most awards organizations. The man deserves a trophy for playing a psychopathic Superman. He’s one of the scariest villains in TV history.

Production is said to be underway now, so it’s a bit premature to know when we might see “G20” arrive. Plus, considering this is an Amazon MGM production, it’s not even guaranteed to arrive in theaters. So, we’ll wait to see if it’s going to get a theatrical push or not.
