Catching up on a few things…
The poster for Roman Polanski’s “The Ghost Writer” surfaced. It shows a very photoshopped/heavily airbrushed Ewan McGregor and the ghostly face of Pierce Brosnan, get it? Seriously, this is one of the worst posters we’ve seen this year.
Zach Galifinakis, Britt Daniel from Spoon, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame, St. Vincent, The Daily Show’s Wyatt Cenac and other indie rockers turned out for a Haiti Benefit Show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on Saturday evening. Anyone have photos?[TripWire]
James Marsden and Russell Brand will star in “I Hop,” no, it’s not a buddy movie about breakfast or brunch in L.A., it’s an live-action/CG-animated hybrid comedy from Universal and Illumination Ent. The guy who directed the “Alvin And The Chipmunks” will helm. You’re excited. [THR]
After trying and failing miserably with Tim Burton’s reboot (at least from a quality/artistic perspective; it sucked), 20th Century Fox is apparently still trying to reboot the “Planet of the Apes” franchise. Oh brother… [Vulture].
Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Duhamel have signed on a supernatural thriller “Sympathy For The Devil,” from director Boaz Yakin. Yakin did the beloved 1994 indie, “Fresh” which was a big Sundance hit that year, but he’s done little of merit since. And with that tagline and cast, it sounds like just a notch above “Snakes On A Plane.” [Latino Review]
The sci-fi novel “Electric Church” by Jeff Somers is coming to the big screen. Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to the series of novels. ‘Church’ is number one and geeks seemed to be excited. [HeatVision]
The guy who wrote Oliver Stone’s disastrous “Alexander,” Christopher Kyle, has been hired to write an action crimelord thriller called, “The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending.” [THR]
Remember how nerds speculated that Kate Mara’s role in “Iron Man 2” was that of Bethany Cabe, a girlfriend and ally of Tony Stark’s in the comic books? Mara shot the rumor down and said she’s basically in one scene. She wouldn’t say who she plays though. [MTV]
Derick Martini, the director of the TIFF indie, “Lymelife” with Alec Baldwin that seemed to have come and gone in a flash this year, will direct the Lionsgate romantic comedy, “31 Days Of Larry.” [THR]
Marcia Gay Harden, Aidan Quinn and Leonor Watling (the gorgeous Spaniard from, “Talk To Her”) have joined the dramedy “If I Were You,” which already stars Joseph Kell, Michael Therriault, Elizabeth Whitmere, Claire Brosseau and Bethany Jillard. [THR]
