Giancarlo Esposito Says Dave Filoni & Jon Favrea “Have A New Vision” For ‘The Mandalorian’ & It Could Mirror The MCU

We know the higher-ups at Disney are trying to focus less on big-budget TV series for franchises like Marvel and “Star Wars,” and focus more on creating films that can earn a healthy box office. That means the new season of “The Mandalorian” is now going to be a feature film. And according to one of the ‘Mandalorian’ actors, this might lead into a couple of other films.

Speaking at this year’s Dragon Con (via Culture Slate), Giancarlo Esposito talked about the future of “The Mandalorian” and “Star Wars” in general. What he thinks is going to happen is that the “Mandalorian” film that is in the works now is only going to lead to more films from creators Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Esposito thinks it’ll all lead to an MCU-style convergence.

“As in the MCU…Disney will figure out how to join all of these characters into one really great movie or TV show. That’s my sense of where it will go,” said Esposito. “Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a ‘Mandalorian’ movie…My sense is that it’s all going to converge at one point or another and we’re going to have another set of… [a] trilogy, or more, of films.”

What’ll be incredibly interesting to see is how many people make the leap from TV to feature films with “The Mandalorian.” Will folks pay money to see the next adventure of Grogu and Mando? Or will they just wait for its eventual debut on Disney+ a few months later? That’s going to be the big question.

As of now, it’s clear Disney wants more “Star Wars” projects on the big screen. That’s where “The Mandalorian & Grogu” comes into play. So, is Esposito right and we’ll see Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and other TV characters make the leap too? It seems like it would be too obvious to pass up the opportunity.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
