Got a Tip?

‘Gloria’ Lead Paulina Garcia To Star In ‘Love Is Strange’ Director Ira Sachs’ ‘The Silent Treatment’

nullFilmmaker Ira Sachs has been a quiet force in the indie scene for a while, but it was his last two pictures — the wrenching "Keep The Lights On" and the relationship drama "Love Is Strange" — that have truly broken him out to a wider audience. And the director is keeping things intimate with his next picture, but he’s landed an exciting name for a key role.

Paulina Gracia, the lead in Sebastián Lelio‘s terrific "Gloria," will star in Sachs’ next effort "The Silent Treatment." The story follows Tony, a 7th grader who moves with his parents from Manhattan to Brooklyn, after his father inherits the family home. There, he befriends Eddie, who is being raised by Leonor, his single mother from Chile, who runs the dress shop in the ground floor of the building. However, when Brian’s parents begin eviction proceedings against Leonor, both boys vow to stop talking to the adults as a form of protest.

Sounds like another complex drama from Sachs, teeming with rich thematic substance. Production was slated to start in June, but it seems that hasn’t happened (or if it has, it’s very under the radar). But here’s hoping cameras are rolling shortly.
