When we left the not-so-glamorous female wrestlers, they had their first live show. They were a knock-out, much like the Netflix show itself. But the personal lives of these women is the driving force of the show, and something we will see more of in Season Two. Alison Brie‘s uptight, Audrey Hepburn wannabe, Ruth, is still at odds with Betty Gilpin‘s Debbie over an affair Ruth had with Debbie’s husband. Marc Maron‘s no-nonsense Sam is still running the show, all while adjusting to his daughter, Justine (who is one of the wrestlers on his show). The rest of the ensemble is getting into character, handling the newfound fame, and creating the most ridiculous storylines for their wrestling shows.
Season One of “GLOW” was a critical success for the streaming service. Receiving nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Screen Actors Guild, and Broadcast Film Critics Association. The show doesn’t seem to be heading for a sophomore slump. With Jenji Kohan (“Orange is the New Black“) attached to season one, and presumably season two, and creators and writers Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch writing the new episodes, the creative team has a buffet of stories to immerse devote fans.
While the source material for the show portrayed campy, flamboyant characters and circumstances, Season Two of “GLOW” steps into the ring poised to take the title once again. “GLOW” stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Britt Baron, Kate Nash, Jackie Tohn, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens and returns to Netflix June 29.
