It’s been a long time coming, but Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” is finally arriving the way it was intended to be watched: as one standalone double feature.
Edgar Wright let the cat out of the bag a little bit last month when he revealed that he had just wrapped recording a commentary for his trailer “Don’t” featured between Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof” but now we have full details on what we can expect in the forthcoming package, but for those of you without a BluRay, you might want to invest in one.
The two-disc DVD set will feature the “Grindhouse” feature and trailers on Disc 1 and Disc 2, and will be a double-sided job with “Planet Terror” and “Death Proof” along with the previously released extras for both films. However, the 2-disc BluRay is where this release really shines. In addition to all the stuff on the DVD version, each fake trailer — Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” Edgar Wright’s “Don’t” and Rob Zombie’s “Werewolf Women of the S.S.” — get’s an extended version complete with director’s commentary and separate making-of documentary. A 10-minute cooking school with Robert Rodriguez, storyboards, the contest-winning short “Hobo With A Shotgun” and a talk with Quentin Tarantino and Lynn Hirschberg at Comic-Con 2006 featuring the directors and cast of “Grindhouse” round out the set.
