If you ever thought being a teenager is like, the worst, well a movie will arrive just in time for the start of the school year that will sympathize with that sentiment.
Written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, “The Edge Of Seventeen” is led by Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Nadine, the kind of unpopular high school student you only see in Hollywood movies, whose problems include boys, a distant mother, a cynical teacher, and her best friend hooking up with her brother. Life, right? Here’s the official synopsis:
Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy (Hayden Szeto) gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.
Co-starring Woody Harrelson, Kyra Sedgwick, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, and Hayden Szeto, and with the legendary James L. Brooks among the producers, “The Edge Of Seventeen” opens on September 30th. And note to the marketing team, I’m not sure putting the phrase “Is It Over Yet?” on a movie poster is a good idea…
