‘Halloween’ Trailer: Michael Myers Is Here To Slash Jamie Lee Curtis Yet Again

With the release of David Gordon Green’s “Halloween,” not only will the long-running slasher series has spawned three flicks with that exact title, but will have also created at least four different timelines of separate, contradicting continuities (five if you count the completely self-contained and Myers-free “Halloween III: Season of the Witch“).

As messy as that may sound, it’s understandable that this eleven-film franchise would feel the constant need to hit that reset button, seeing how it’s yet to bring us a single genuinely well-received movie since the classic 1978 original. It is from here that the new film will be picking things up, albeit four decades down the line, ignoring everything that’s elapsed in the meantime, from the sibling twist in “Halloween II” to the divisive Rob Zombie years, to that time Michael Myers tried to kill Paul Rudd.

But while countless victims and a few lucky survivors have come and gone throughout the years, arguably none have left a longer-lasting impression on the franchise than Laurie Strode. The new “Halloween” will see Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her most famous role for what is allegedly the last time, though we’ve certainly heard that before. In the new timeline, the legendary scream queen has a daughter and granddaughter, played Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively, and has spent the last forty years preparing for the inevitable return of her old assailant.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

The film stars Curtis, Greer, and Matichak alongside Will Patton, Virginia Gardner, and Nick Castle. Green directs a script he penned with “Vice Principals” scribes Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. Distribution will be handled by Universal Pictures.

“Halloween” will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival before it hits theaters October 19.
