What’s the best way for a movie studio to celebrate Halloween? Drop a trailer for an upcoming slasher, of course. And that’s what’s Sony did today for “Heart Eyes,” their Valentine’s Day slasher set to hit theaters on that holiday next year.
And from the looks of the new red band teaser, “Heart Eyes” will supply all of the usual slasher standards: a masked killer stalking couples, chase scenes, and lots and lots of gore. To be honest, this one looks halfway decent, or at least good enough for horror fans to overlook the fact that “My Bloody Valentine” (and its 2009 remake) did this concept over forty years ago.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Heart Eyes,” courtesy of Sony Pictures:
For the past several years, the “Heart Eyes Killer” has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe…
“Heart Eyes” stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, and Michaela Watkins. And two horror movies alums round out the main cast: “Final Destination” star Devon Sawa and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning” final girl Jordana Brewster.
Josh Ruben directs “Heart Eyes” from a script by Phillip Murphy and Christopher Landon & Michael Kennedy. Landon’s name in a horror movie’s credits is always a promising sight; good thing he’s also producing with Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks. Executive producers on the film include Gary Barber, Chris Stone, Mel Turner, Murphy, and Kennedy.
So will “Heart Eyes” outdo “My Bloody Valentine” and become the holiday’s new premier slasher? Find out next year when the movie hits theaters. Check out the red band teaser below.
