With M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” hitting the ground running on its opening weekend, the Screen Junkies tip their hats to the director’s work in the latest Honest Trailer focusing on the 2000 film, “Unbreakable.”
The beginning of Shyamalan’s superhero trilogy (and yes, they do bring up the time gap), “Unbreakable” is oft-forgotten among the famed director’s early works. But, with the forthcoming “Glass” riding on the coattails of 2016’s surprise hit “Split,” the Screen Junkies thought it best to remind us where it all started, and give their own hilarious tribute to Shyamalan at the same time.
Screen Junkies poke fun at Shyamalan’s signature moves in the movie, like the suspenseful supernatural, the long deeper meaning pauses, and of course the kind of twist that made his movies like “Sixth Sense” famous:
“A twist you’ll never see coming the first time that will be so obvious the second time around you won’t know how you missed it. I mean, is it still a twist if you’re expecting a twist? Or is the REAL twist knowing he KNOWS you think the twist is coming, so he probably won’t do a twist, then do a twist anyway!”
As you might expect, the folks at Screen Junkies sure do love bringing a healthy dose of silly humor to even the most dour and gritty films, even if said film includes Bruce Willis running around in a “superhero costume” that consists of a green raincoat.
Kidding aside, “Unbreakable” is one of the stronger entries in M. Night’s filmography and was due for the Honest Trailer treatment. Let’s just hope that the Eastrail 177 Trilogy (yes, that’s the real name…) ends well with “Glass,” which hits theaters January 18.
