We certainly didn’t hide our love for documentarian Steve James’ film, “The Interrupters,” in 2011 – it was mentioned on at least one Playlist member's best of 2011 list coverages and we were a little bummed it didn’t receive any Oscar love – and his 1994 effort, “Hoop Dreams,” is one of the finest entries of the sports doc genre of all time. It remained to be seen what James would be up to next, and now word has arrived, and it's an intriguing one with some early details hitting the web.
James and bestselling author of “The Value of Nothing,” Raj Patel, are entering the world of crowdsourcing for their ambitious multimedia project entitled “Generation Food” that will involve a documentary, book, and more, which according to their IndieGoGo page is attempting to tell a plethora of stories concerning individuals who are fighting to fix “a broken food system today so that everyone can eat tomorrow.” There’s a campaign launch video that you can watch below, which hammers the goals and ultimate mission of the project home, promising to highlight tales “from a climate-change-ready farming system in Cuba, to a way of cooking and eating that transforms women’s lives in Malawi, there are amazing experiences to share across the table, and across the world.”
Want to take part? All the details are up on the site, and the filmmakers are looking to raise $50,000 in funding by August 16, 2012. Should it all come together, the film is being prepped for a summer 2014 release with the book arriving at the same time.
