Hugh Grant Called His Recent 'Joker' Theatrical Experience "Unendurable" & "Pointless" Due To The Volume Of The Film

There’s an old customer service saying that goes “A satisfied customer might tell one person about their experience, but a dissatisfied customer will tell a dozen.” That’s true of restaurants and retail, but also, apparently, at the movie theater. Except in the case of Hugh Grant, a dissatisfied customer tells over 451,000 people.

Recently, Grant was going to see “Joker” on the big screen, but couldn’t help but leave disappointed. That being said, the disappointment wasn’t about the content of the film or any specific performances. Instead, Grant was upset over the volume of the film in the theater.

The actor tweeted, “Am I old or is the cinema MUCH TOO LOUD? Unendurable. Pointless.”

His tweet quickly gained steam with folks on Twitter, which eventually caught the eye of Vue Cinemas, the company that the actor called out. A spokesperson for the theater chain apologized and said that his concerns would be passed along to the appropriate people.

Grant then went on to explain which exact showing he was at for “Joker” and finished by saying, “But joke was on us.” Ouch.

In an era where filmmakers are desperate to get people to go to the theaters to watch films on the big screen, having someone such as Hugh Grant call the experience “unendurable” and “pointless” is not the most ringing endorsement ever. Of course, anecdotal evidence should never condemn an entire industry. But then again, having sound that is far too loud is just another reason why people might just want to stay at home and watch “Joker” from the comfort of their couch, with the volume control at the touch of a finger.

Either way, Grant isn’t stopping too many people from seeing “Joker” on the big screen, as the film continues to dominate the box office. So, perhaps Grant is just getting “old” and the rest of us are perfectly fine with our eardrums getting blown out at the cinema.
