Got a Tip?

Hugh Jackman Previews His Chinese Musical Number From ‘Snow Flower’ On Jay Leno

JustJared was able to put up with Jay Leno’s annoying laugh long enough to hear the song Hugh Jackman sang part way through his guest appearance, and in turn had a preview of what we’ll see from him in Wayne Wang’s upcoming “Snow Flower & The Secret Fan.”

When asked by Leno if he could sing a bit of the song he sings in Mandarin in the film, Jackman does one better by practically belting out the whole tune and then dancing with an audience member. It seems he nailed the dialect and the song is actually not too bad.

As we previously reported, the film is based on Lisa See’s book about a “laotong” relationship (one “made by choice for the purpose of emotional companionship and eternal fidelity” as described in the book) between two women in 19th century rural China. Obviously Wang has taken the material in some interesting directions as Jackman plays a nightclub owner who has a penchant for bursting out into song.

There is no release date or US distribution yet in place for the film, but we’re sure those details will be lined up in the next little while. Jackman remains busy on a host of upcoming projects including the comedy “Avon Man,” the civil rights drama “Selma,” the robot film “Real Steel” and “Wolverine 2.”
