What’s next for Sydney Sweeney, outside of her much-anticipated return as Cassie Howard on “Euphoria” Season 3? Deadline reports that the actress will star in and produce “I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl,” based on a Reddit short story by Joe Cote, with Warner Bros. backing the project.

The short story centers around a drifter who impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family, leading to unexpected trouble. Sweeney will produce the film via her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. The project also has quite the screenwriter aboard to adapt the story: “Dune” scribe Eric Roth, who won an Oscar back in the day for his “Forrest Gump” screenplay.
Other “I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl” producers include Roy Lee via Vertigo, and Steven Schneider, Trevor Engelson, and Aaron Folbe via Underground.
The new film is just one of several upcoming projects for Sweeney, including the aforementioned “Euphoria” S3, “The Housemaid“ and “Echo Valley.” The actress also stars in David Michôd‘s upcoming biopic about boxer Christy Martin, which should hit theaters later this year. Sweeney will also star in and produce Colman Domingo‘s feature directorial debut “Scandalous!,” about the clandestine 1957 love affair between Kim Novak and Sammy Davis Jr. Meanwhile, “The Housemaid,” a thriller with Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, bows on Christmas Day.
2024 was another big year for Sweeney, who’s spent the past four years quietly ascending to A-list status. But 2024 proved to be a minor lull for the rising star. Her horror movie “Immaculate” fared okay with genre fans, but “Madame Web” ended up a notorious bomb. And Ron Howard‘s “Eden,” which Sweeney co-stars in with Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Vanessa Kirby, still hasn’t found US distribution.
