Neon is on such a tear this year. After the Oscar-nominated success of “Anatomy Of A Fall,” “Perfect Days,” “Robot Dreams,” and the critically acclaimed “Ferrari,” and new films like “Mother’s Instinct” on the way, the indie company shows no signs of slowing down. Next up for the company is the religious horror film, “Immaculate,” starring young star of the moment Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria”), who will soon be seen in the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off movie “Madame Web.”

The film reunites Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who wrote and directed 2021’s Amazon Studios’ erotic thriller “The Voyeurs,” which she starred in opposite Justice Smith. Mohan directs “Immaculate” from a screenplay by Andrew Lobel (“Dead or Alive,” “Delirium and the Dollman”), with Sweeney serving as a producer under her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. In fact, Sweeney developed the project with producer David Bernad (“The Mule”) following their highly successful collaboration on HBO’s Emmy-winning satire “The White Lotus.”
Simona Tabasco (“The White Lotus”), Alvaro Morte (“Money Heist”), Benedetta Porcaroli (“Baby”), Giorgio Colangeli (“Citizens Of The World”), and Dora Romano (“The Hand of God”) are also part of the film. Neon snatched up rights to the picture late last year. If you don’t recognize many of those names, it’s because they’re all Italian character actors, and the film is set in that country.
The picture centers around a devoutly religious woman named Cecilia (Sweeney), who is offered a role at an illustrious convent in the Italian countryside. Her seemingly picture-perfect new home is soon revealed to hold horrifying secrets.
Neon has carved out a March 22 date for the horror film, and a new, just-released trailer can be seen below.
