As we learned from the whole Lance Armstrong/J.J. Abrams/Bradley Cooper affair, even direct quotes can be dodgy these days, but this one comes from Cooper himself — spoken in French no less while doing promo in France — so we presume no wires have been crossed. And it looks like the actor's teaming up with Derek Cianfrance could get some international flavor.
Last fall it was announced that Cooper and Cianfrance were going to tackle the long developing "Chef," a project David Fincher once had his eye on. Penned by "Eastern Promises" writer Steven Knight, the story follows a disgraced chef who, thanks to booze and drugs, loses his Michelin two star rated restaurant in Paris, but brings the gang back together, so to speak, in London to chase an elusive three star rating. So it's like a food driven "Silver Linings Playbook" meets "Ratatouille" and "The Hangover"? Perhaps, but feel free to use that, sales agents! And Cooper revealed that "The Intouchables" star Omar Sy may take part in the movie.
"We've been talking about this project. I want to do it. It's a beautiful story. And I love cooking," Cooper said. But hold on, because he also adds that after he shoots David O. Russell's project formerly known as "American Bullshit," he's going to be taking a breather. "I'm going to make another film in March and after that I think I'm going to take a break and stay in Paris for Roland Garros [the tennis tournament set in late May]."
So basically, this kinda just seems like Cooper talked about it with Sy while slamming back some brews and it got upgraded to something more. We'll see. But would The Weinstein Company, who will produce, want the stars and team behind "The Intouchables," "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Blue Valentine" teaming up? Hell, that's a poster right there.
