Got a Tip?

Irvine Welsh Hints At Possible ‘Trainspotting’ TV Series

With “T2: Trainspottinglooking much better than expected, you’d perhaps hope that author Irvine Welsh wouldn’t want to push his luck. However, none of his novels have landed on the pop-culture sphere with the same impact as “Trainspotting,” and its wild ride of drugs, sex, and life lessons is the kind of stuff that resonates with each generation that catches up with the movie or source material. On the page, Welsh continued the adventures of the characters from the book in the follow-up “Porno” and in the prequel “Skagboys,” while Begbie got his one spinoff in “The Blade Artist.” As for Renton, Spud, and Sick Boy, Welsh has plans for them too.

“Basically, I’ve plans for them all. All in various kind of schedules or adaptations,” he told NME. “It’s all ruling on cable TV, cable TV has some interesting developments. We’re working on all these different kind of things.”

“I think now anybody who’s in the book, whether the like it or not, they’re working on the way of being in the film. You keep that in mind. As soon as you’ve written it, you’re thinking about how it can move into different mediums,” he added.

It all seems early and exploratory, so it’s likely too soon to say if this would involve original cast members, or finding new actors to play everybody at a younger age. But a series revolving around the quartet isn’t far-fetched, though the bar to clear in terms of quality is already fairly high.

As for the upcoming “T2: Trainspotting,” Welsh says it’s “epic” and that “it’s going to be a great film, a great standalone film but also work with the first film as well to bring that whole world together.”

“T2: Trainspotting” opens in the UK on January 27, 2017, and will arrive in cinemas stateside on February 3, 2017, in limited release, before going wide on February 10, 2017. [via FACT]
