With Terrence Malick hard at work on his next film starring Rachel McAdams, Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper, details have, as usual with Malick, been completely under wraps. Aside from the casting, and set pictures revealing that Bardem and Pepper play priests in the film, little is known about the picture but has a French website spilled the beans on the title?
A reader has pointed us in the direction of Fluctuat, an entertainment site, that has a page for Malick’s next film and pegs the title as “The Burial.” The casting information is a bit old — it still lists Christian Bale among the cast — but it’s a tasty morsel of info that, if we were to guess, might have been an early working title for the project. Could this be another post-death grief picture? Perhaps an indication of a central plot point around which the film revolves? Or maybe it’s a red herring and an old title that has nothing to do with what the final picture will end up looking like; Malick isn’t necessarily one to stick to a script.
And while early reports cited the film as a “romantic drama” — and the French site still holds that description — Malick’s films aren’t easily categorized and that too is likely only a very vague indication of what’s in store. This film is likely a bit of a way off yet, but Malick’s next, “The Tree Of Life,” will hit theaters on May 27, 2011.
