J.C. Chandor and Mark Wahlberg are both on the hunt for Oscars this year. The writer/director has "A Most Violent Year" on the way, starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, while the actor will be rolling the dice with "The Gambler." Both are among the most anticipated but as yet-unscreened movies left on the calendar. Next year, the pair will join forces for the 2016 awards hunt.
Summit Entertainment has announced that "Deepwater Horizon" will roll into cinemas on September 30, 2016. It might be a little early for Oscar consideration, but past years have seen films like "Argo" and "The Social Network" do well in that time frame. Here’s the official synopsis:
Based on the true events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, the story chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.
Matthew Sand and Matthew Carnahan wrote the script, and production is expected to begin next year.
