Got a Tip?

James Cameron’s Version Of ‘Jurassic Park’ Would Have Been “Nastier, Much Nastier” And Thoroughly Awesome

Let’s travel back in time to 1993, when Steven Spielberg was about to make everyone’s heads explode with his next massive film, “Jurassic Park.” Little did we know, at the time, that it was almost not going to happen. Well, “Jurassic Park” would have been made, but it would have looked very, very different, with another legendary director named James Cameron at the helm.

Recently, in an interview with Huffington Post, Cameron revealed that he was so close to buying the rights to the dinosaur epic, “Jurassic Park.” “I tried to buy the book rights and [Spielberg] beat me to it by a few hours,” Cameron said.

Often in Hollywood, there are instances where actors lose out on a legendary role, only to wonder what would happen if they actually played the part. For instance, how would “Back to the Future” been different with original actor Eric Stoltz and not Michael J. Fox? However, with “Jurassic Park,” it wouldn’t have been just one actor that changed, it would have been every bit of the film, down to the DNA.

Cameron goes on to explain that ultimately he understands that Spielberg was right for the job. But he gives a hint as to what we could have expected in the Cameron version of the dinosaur film, “But when I saw the film, I realized that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been ‘Aliens’ with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.”

Not saying that Spielberg did anything wrong by making “Jurassic Park.” That film is a classic, without a doubt. But how amazing would an “’Aliens’ with dinosaurs” film be? Let’s give Cameron the reins on the next “Jurassic World” (Sorry, Colin Trevorrow), please?

“Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier,” concludes the filmmaker.

Okay, okay, fair point. But now visions of Marines taking out Velociraptors dance in my head. Somehow, some way, this needs to happen.
