Jason Momoa is returning to Netflix. After his billion-dollar stint as Arthur Curry in “Aquaman,” the actor is returning to the platform that released his series “Frontier” for a new action film titled “Sweet Girl.”
According to THR, Momoa will star in and produce the film, which is being described as a “revenge action film.” “Sweet Girl” tells the story of a man who vows to get, well, revenge for the murder of his wife, while also protecting the only family he has left, his young daughter. The film was written by Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner with the latest draft by Will Staples. “Sweet Girl” marks the directorial debut for Brian Andrew Mendoza, who is a producer that has worked with Momoa on a number of projects.
“I’m excited to partner with Netflix once again,” said Momoa. “I’m putting a dream team together from Brad and Jeff to my best friend, Brian who has been my partner for over ten years. It’s a dream come true to collaborate with him and deliver his vision.”
The Brad and Jeff that Momoa mentioned are none other than producers Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson, who worked with the actor on the series “Frontier,” as well as the film “Braven.”
Momoa is probably best known for his role as the title superhero in “Aquaman.” Of course, before that, he was Khal Drogo in “Game of Thrones” and let’s not forget his storied run as Jason Ioane in “Baywatch: Hawaii.” Currently, the actor has a number of projects on the docket, including Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” and the Apple TV+ series “See.”
“Sweet Girl” is yet another example of Netflix playing to its audience’s wants and desires. While reports say that the streaming service is pinching pennies, it’s clear that Netflix is willing to spend the money on sure things. And let’s be real, right now anything with Jason Momoa in it is about as much of a sure thing as you can get for a streaming service. Just let the man sport long hair and a beard, and you’ll have people staying at home to watch “Sweet Girl” on repeat.
