Got a Tip?

Javier Bardem Offered Villain Role In ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5,’ Shooting Begins February 2015

JAVIER BARDEM, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5Like wife, like husband? Penelope Cruz (aka Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive) logged time in the franchise world by appearing "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," and now her husband is being offered a role in the watery franchise.

The Wrap reports that Bardem is in early talks to play the villain in the fifth entry in the long-running series. Christoph Waltz was apparently rumored, but instead Bardem is the guy now eyeballing the part. Of course, the actor has done the bad guy thing before in "No Country For Old Men" and "Skyfall," and his villains are certainly never subtle. So he would fit perfectly in the ‘Pirates’ arena, where everything is painted in broad, eyeliner ready strokes.

We should have this confirmed soon, as according to Inside Film, pre-production on the sequel —to be directed by “Kon-Tiki” filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg— will kick off this month, with filming to start in February. Moreover, the budget is expected to run north of $200 million. Which is perhaps fitting, considering ‘At World’s End’ was the most expensive movie ever made.

"Pirates Of The Caribbean 5" opens on July 7, 2017.
