Jeremy Renner Opens Up About Tragic Snow Plow Accident: “I Was Awake Through Every Moment”

On New Year’s Day, it was reported that Jeremy Renner was in critical condition after a snow plow accident. Eventually, we’d learn that a huge Snowcat ran over Renner, crushing his body and breaking numerous bones. Since then, we’ve seen peeks into his recovery, but nothing major. However, next week, Diane Sawyer airs an interview she had with Renner where he goes through the events of that day and his recovery in great detail. And holy shit, the experience sounds truly awful.

In a new clip released to tease the upcoming interview, we see some highlights from the discussion. We see Sawyer ask Renner how much of the accident he remembers, as many times victims will black out and forget a lot of the trauma they experienced. But not in Renner’s case.

“All of it,” Renner replied. “I was awake through every moment.”

The clip also goes into detail with a laundry list of injuries that Renner had due to the accident, which included “eight ribs broken in 14 places. Right knee, right ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken. Face, eye socket, jaw, mandible broken. Lung collapsed. Pierced from the rib bone, your liver — which sounds terrifying.”

In response to that list of injuries, Renner shared that he was truly concerned with how he would heal and what would be left of him.

“What’s my body going to look like?” He said. “Am I just going to be a spine and a brain, like a science experiment?”

Obviously, without seeing the full interview, it’s clear that Renner is one lucky man. You have to wonder how many people would survive that sort of accident, and how many even would be able to give a national interview just a few months later. It’s really incredible.

The full interview airs on ABC on April 6. You can watch the teaser for the upcoming interview below:
