John Carpenter is many things. He’s one of the best filmmakers to ever live (I’ll argue this to my dying day). He’s someone that revolutionized the horror genre. And he’s also someone that doesn’t bullshit you, especially over the past few years where it’s clear the filmmaker is just as happy playing video games as he is making movies. So, if the man who created “Halloween” is here to tell you just how great the upcoming sequel, “Halloween Kills,” is, then it’s probably because he honestly believes it.

Speaking to EW, Carpenter was asked about his thoughts regarding the new Blumhouse film from David Gordon Green, which is scheduled to arrive this October. While he didn’t go as far as to spoil anything that fans can expect with the forthcoming “Halloween Kills,” the legendary filmmaker did offer up his seal of approval. And he isn’t holding back the praise he feels for the new sequel.
“It’s brilliant,” said Carpenter. “It’s the ultimate slasher. I mean, there’s nothing more than this one. Wow! Man.”

Some might argue that the original 1978 “Halloween” is the “ultimate slasher,” as it’s just flat-out incredible what Carpenter was able to achieve on a shoestring budget decades before slashers were even really a thing. But for him to think “Halloween Kills” holds that title, then we are definitely interested in seeing just what Green and his cohorts have up their sleeves for the new sequel. Because let’s be real, horror sequels, in general, don’t have a strong track record, and when you take into account the declining returns seen in the “Halloween” franchise with each sequel, fans are just hoping for the best.
“Halloween Kills” is expected to arrive in theaters on October 15. The trilogy-ending “Halloween Ends” is coming in October 2022.
