John Goodman Reteams With The Coens Again For ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’

Gale Snoats, Charlie Meadows, Walter Sobchak and Big Dan Teague — these are memorable characters played by John Goodman in “Raising Arizona,” “Barton Fink,” “The Big Lebowski” and “O Brother Where Art Thou?” (he also made a brief cameo in “The Hudsucker Proxy“) and he’s set to make his first movie with the duo in over a decade.

With Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan on board, and an offer out to Justin Timberlake (and if he’s smart, he’ll take it), Showbiz 411 reports that Goodman is joining the forthcoming “Inside Llewyn Davis.” For the ‘O Brother’ actor it’s a return to musical territory with the directors, with movie loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk, an American folk singer who presided over the ‘60s Greenwich Village scene, that included people you might have heard of like Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Joni Mitchell.

Of course, actual details are being kept close to the vest for now, so no word on what his role (or anybody else’s) is will be in the story described thus far as centering on a “struggling folk musician born and bred in Queens who, despite being a talented singer and guitarist, just can’t seem to make ends meet playing music.” Too bad “X Factor” wasn’t around back then.

The film is gearing up to lens in New York City in February.
